Subject: where is the host in a PC connection?
Comment:

Has anyone made a direct PC Connection (parallel cable) with Windows XP? Where can I find the host computer? After the both computers are connected I can't find the host computer and the shared files and folders? Thanks for a help!

I have the same problem with a serial cable. If anyone has an answer I'd appreciate hearing it also.

Thanks.

I have the same problem. The guest asks for Host Computer name as it cannot display shared folders of host computer. Typing in host computer name does not help. May be have to provide in certain format?

Thanks

The host is the name of the host computer in terms of the ip address. Since the protocol is TCP/IP we need the IP address. Right Click on the Connected User icon ( in my case) generated for the Incoming Connections in Network Connections and click on Status. Click on the Details tab. Note the Server IP Address and enter this IP address for the Host Computer Name in the Direct Cable Connection Host window on the guest computer.

To avoid entering IP Address and use a name create a Hosts file in the Windows directory on the guest computer with the entry:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Computer_Name
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the Server IP Address and Computer_Name is the name of the host computer.
The file can be created also by inserting the entry in the Hosts.sam file and renaming the file to Hosts.
You will then enter the Computer_name when prompted by the guest computer.

Regards
