SMARTDRV.EXE is a MS-DOS based file, no MS-DOS in the NT Family.

Could try here:

you actually dont NEED smartdrive. it just installs quicker if you have it. You could've actually finished installing it by now rather than looking for it.

dstryfe,

FYI, Windows XP cd does not come with Smartdrv.exe.

However, if you want to install Windows from the command prompt per THIS Microsoft knowledgebase article, then you should go HERE to download and install Windows 98 SE OEM on a floppy disk. The Windows 98 SE OEM includes smartdrv.exe.

Hope this helps :-)

you can get

What is SMARTDrive?
============================================
SMARTDrive (SMARTDRV.EXE) creates a disk cache in extended memory. This significantly speeds up MS-DOS disk operations. Therefore, if you're installing Windows from the DOS level, place a copy of SMARTDRV.exe onto the boot floppy disk that you boot with. After you boot your PC with this disk, execute SMARTDrive by typing SMARTDRV from the A prompt. It will only take a couple of seconds to load. You can then proceed with your installation of Windows. For both Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you begin the installation routine by executing WINNT.EXE, located in the i386 folder of the installation CD.
Without running SMARTDRV.exe it can take up to 5 hours just to copy the installation files to the hard drive. Google for smardrv.exe
