I've been having trouble with my computer lately. All the icons on the START>PROGRAMS menu are not the original icons in the files. I was navigating through the internet and it says that I have to delete the SHELLICONCACHE from registry editor.
I think it sayed to go to REGISTRY EDITOR...HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer
Then to delete SHELLICONCACHE.
The problem is that I don't see anywhere in there.Does anyone know what I can do?

Angeliux, There is no SHELLICONCACHE file in Windows XP. In Windows XP there is a iconcache.db file. To rebuild that file just start your computer in SAFE mode then restart it in Normal mode as I stated in my reply to the other thread.

Try the "large icon" method & see if that helps.
0. Right-click the desktop >> Properties >> Appearance tab >> Effects.
1. Checkmark the use large icons box and click OK then Apply >> OK.
Did that help?

G'day Angeliux, I've never seen ShellIconCache [Win95-2000] nor it's successor, Iconcache.db [XP] ever mentioned in the Registry. It's hard to delete a file from within there so I wonder if someone was pulling your leg or they just didn't know. Maybe it is in there in some way but I doubt it. Shell32.dll is the file that creates the icon cache file. You can actually live without it too.
It's actual location now is
Docs and Sets
+ "User" [that's you of course]
.+ Local Settings
..+ Application DataYou can get tweaking programs or even MicroAngelo [Icon Editor] that can rebuild the cache without rebooting as well.
By the way, mine is now called Ronneze.sic [that's short for Shell Icon Cache in case you were wondering and not my mentality] with it's own unique icon and associated with Wordpad. I changed it's name and extension using a hex editor and it still works okay in all versions of Windows that I have had.

Where is Documents and Setting?
Is it under My Computer? Because that's where I went under My Computer and opened the C:drive and I only see Administrator, My Husband's UserName, Guest...that's it.
I went to each one of them and neither one says local settings.
Maybe I did something wrong or went to the wrong place.Angeliux
