hi, when i close svchost i get RPC error which shutsdown after 60secs. what can i do about that
Note. i had this popular virus which causes computer to give RPC error and then shutdown after 60 secs. but i succesfully cleared the virus out of my system. But even if i cleared the virus i feel something weird about my svchost and generichost. Is it possible that the virus did something to them or do i still have a virus (i checked so many times with AVG)
thx

RPC is a critical system process; and if you run services.msc you'll see that the default configuration for XP is to reboot after 60 seconds if that service is ever terminated.
Why do you still feel weird about it?

scvhost is a generic name for system prosses..And yes some of them are need, so dont shut them down, for a compleat list of services go to Http://blackviper.com

If you have a firewall up and running, and the MSBlaster patch from www.microsoft.com/downloads and have run a removal tool from your favorite anti-virus vendor,Then
go to Start / Search and look for tftp, svchost and dllhost (there should be one of each in windows\system32) all others are from Blaster
delete any found, except the good one(s)
Then go to start /Run >>services.msc
find the Remote procedure entries . Highlight and go to properties / recovery Tab and change to 'Take no Action' or 'restart service'
Good Luck

It sounds like you have Blaster or Welchia or some
RPC variant. You should run my automated tool
which you can download at http://
www.tflsolutions.com/rpc/tflrpcv5-express.isoJust burn that ISO to a CD and run it and it will patch
you with MS03-039 and clean your system of the
Blaster and Welchia worm.
