my comp froze for an unkown reason, i tried to shut down, alt ctrl del, and after waitin awhile i hit the restart button, now when it boots back up, it recognizes my hd and everything, it just boots up and asks to boot normally, safe mode, last known config, and when i choose any of them, it starts to boot up and i see the windows xp startup screen, then bam it just restarts and does the same thing over and over again. i dont want to format just yet because i need to back up some important information.

i didnt install any new software/hardware, i was shutting down aim and the comp froze. so now i have no idea what to do. any help would be greatly appreciated, thx alot

Hey man, in Safe Mode go into System Properties =>Advanced => Startup and Recovery.

Under the System Failure settings, uncheck the box next to Automatically Restart.

Then go to Computer Management => Event Viewer. Double click the events to view their event ids. Go to the following sites and look up the problems with your system.

http://www.eventid.net/events.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/support/EE_winxppro.asp

Good luck.
