whay does this happen and ....

how can i prevent it if possible....many ppl i know leave their computers on all day for days upon days and it runs fine..if i leave mine on for over 5-7 hours it starts to crap out on me...programs dont load and i get errors, and have to reset..which is no big deal but why does this happen to mine and not others...
i just installed WIN XP PRO and have a Dell 8100 pentium 4 40GB 512 and 1.7mhz ...whats up?

I agree with gabep. Stick in another case fan venting out near the top and that should take care of your problem. Also check that you don't have a lot of dust and blockage of your vents and fan blades inside the case.

i think i may have a lot of dust in there as i have never open it or checked the fan in 2 yrs...hmmm...

Don't use a vacuum cleaner to clean it. There was a post here recently that a person used a vacuum and the generated static electricity killed something in the machine.

Answered your own question. Dust is a very good heat insulator. Get a can of compressed air.

If it has happened from day one it is within cmos/bios settings from the manufacturer. You have to change your power option w/in power save in the bios setup.
If it just started to do that, then you either have a power supply going out or a dust problem. My suggestion would be to do the cheaper first. (can of air and blow out the dust everywhere including power supply fan and vents.
