Whats wmiprvse.exe?

Like the subject says whats wmiprvse.exe? it sometimes appears in the task manager and i end process it and nothing happenends like if i never closed nothing. I dont think its a virus or is it? thanks

System Restore option in Windows Me/XP

Users of Windows Me and Windows XP should temporarily turn off System Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, from modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools cannot remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, System Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file onto your computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all the other locations.

Also, a virus scan may detect a threat in the System Restore folder even though you have removed the threat.

Um sir thanks for your reply i already have norton and i scanned system32 folder where the file is located and actually scanned the exact file and nothing came up and yes with all the updates maybe I should scan the whole system?

Um I found this website that said what it was and did etc. and im 99.9% is not a trojan but i'll still do a full system scan i havent done it in a long time anyways,thanks

If you do a sercah via google.com, teoma.com, yahoo.com (any of those or similar search engines) using:

wmiprvse.exe

as the search term/string, you'll get all manner or responses/hits telling you all about it. Google returns over 500...
