So little information... unbelievable (not the drive problem, the lack of relevant info!). Do you want help or not?

Yes, you are! What more do you need? a. CD drive tray opens and closes by itself. b. I disabled it in device manager. 3. it still opens and closes. Also, and BTW, I'm NOT pressing any buttons or clicking anything including the right click option to eject. Just sitting here watching a disabled CD drive tray open and close by itself... What more can I say?

(Just for example):

• After you disabled the device, did you re-boot?
• If you did, was the device automatically re-installed?
• Have you checked for "un-recognized" Start-up programs/processes?
• Have you checked for "un-recognized" processes in Task Manager?
• When did this start to happen?
• If recent, have you tried System Restore?
• etc., etc., etc.

Here's a simple test to see if it's hardware or software. Disconnect the IDE cable from it. Leave it with power only. Does it exhibit random open/close? If yes ditch it . If no re-connect data cable and boot up into BIOS. Does it misbehave? If yes swap IDE cable. If no you have a windows problem
