Does anyone know what the diferences are between windows 2000 pro and xp pro
exept the cartoonische look ofcourse wich is a big hug on the system

Remember that Microsoft is discontinuing all support for any OS older than XP as of January 01, 2002! This includes Win2K. If that isn't an issue to you, I'd concurr with the previous response -- Don't upgrade.

That's not exactly true. Microsoft will support win2k and will provide limited support for win98 and NT4 at least until 2003.

I love how people like Desktop jockey just throw statements out like they know the answer. Thanks for the correct info Zippy.
XP is better in some ways than 2000. 2000 is a great OS but it was never designed as a replacement for 9x. XP is. XP has much better support for games than 2000. It also has better support for multimedia such as digital cameras CD burners etc. It also remote access to the desktop which can be a huge benefit in corporation help desks. On a powerful enough computer it is faster than 2000 and much faster than 9x or ME. If you are running 9x or ME then XP is a huge upgrade. If you are running w2k and like it and are happy with it, you probably won't see a huge difference between it and XP. But, I like to run the latest OS and XP so far has proven to be excellent.

Win XP Pro has been a much better experience for me than Win 2000. I have a 2 year old Compaq 5726 with a PIII at 500 mHz. (Added extra memory, 2nd HD, etc. throughout its life). Originally came with win 98 SE. Tried upgrading to Win 2000 - I could not get ANY usb devices to work, including my lifeline - cable modem. No matter what I did, Win 2000 just would not recognize them! Non-existent! Tried doing several things too. Ended up going back to Win 98 SE via drive images.
Installed Win XP without a hitch from Win 98 SE. (Just took a while). Some USB devices and my DVD did not work properly at first, so I deleted the individual devices in hardware manager. Except for my network adapter, XP auto detected each "new" piece of hardware (including the DVD) and XP loaded its own drivers, and everything works fine! Did not have to download any new drivers. Installed the Win 2000 drivers for cable modem network adapter and it works now too. Maybe I jsut got lucky after reading all the other horror stories. So far so good!

It is true that the products "Win2k" have been discontinued, though support will be avaiable. One point Win2k server is not to be discontinued as XP is not designed to administer a Domain or be a web server..

so on a amd athlon xp 1,33ghz 256mb (gonna buy more later)
i should run win xp
right ?
is the geforce 2 fully compatible and anyone know if quake 3 and UT can run on it ?
