Name: Nick R (by Nick Ritchie)
I downloaded the You Tube downloader and it downloades in .fLV format ,even though you can change or chose MPEG4 as the format video to be converted to. I still obviously dont know very much about this whole process ,waht I do know is the youtube downloader does not work and even watching you tube video's on my PC rarely works . I have Flash player ver10 ,which I believe is nneeded for youtube to work on your system ? FYI O/S WinXP MCE 2005 SP2 ,plenty of RAM and a dual core processsor 2.8 Gigs ,I also have a TV Tuner card installation my PC . When I use a decoder check up utility it shows only one video decoder as a working one thats my Roxio /Sonic Cinemaster DS Video Decoder which is listed as not compatible with WMP ver10 however it is with the Media Center ,Sonic MPEG Dedcoder shows it not being compatible with either WMP or the Media Center ? Anyone with a reason why a O/S with a Media Center would not have video codecs that are compatible accross multible formats ?
Thank You Nick

I might not be around for a while but it seems to me that you have not said much about "what exactly is happening".
You said the downloader produces flv files (which is correct) yet you also say downloader "does not work". Does absolutely nothing happen, any error messages, or what?
If the flv files are saved then there are many freebie flv players around, such as "Wimpy FLV Player" which is small, simple, and works quite nicely.
some other bloke...

hi
depends on which youtube downloader your usinghttp://youtubedownload.altervista.org/
converts ok, use vlc as a flv player
youtube downloader
all you should have to do is ensure the url is in the top box and hit download.to convert click the convert button , find the saved flv choose the format , & convert
( btw vlc runs on much lower spec pc than you state).(re edit as i wasnt clear in original post.)

Mostly what happens is the You Tube utility will simply do nothinng or freeze up ,same with flash player it will start a video then about a third of the way thru it simply stops working . I've tried uninstalling the You Tube downloader and re-installing to no avail, and also have tried re-installing flash player ? Thanks to all for your response to my situation ,its greatly apreciated . I believe the link to the you tube downloader is the one I have installed ? I will take a closer look to make sure !
Take Care , Nick
Special thanks to Jam !
