I installed XP Pro over Windows 98se recently and notice that now when I turn on my computer it sounds like my floppy drive is trying to read a disk thats not there.I dont know too much about computers but I went to device manager to see if there's a conflict of any kind but everything looked fine .Any suggestions?Thank you.

It's fine. It's just the BIOS scanning the floppy drive to see if theres a boot disk in there if you want to format your hard drive or something. You can stop this by looking in the BIOS by changing the boot order or by disabling scanning the floppy drive on boot up.

Amber,

BIOS is no biggie (as long as you're careful)... The next time the computer starts up, you should see a black screen with a message saying "Press F2" or "Press F10" to change set up information.

one of the first things you'll see is the start-up sequence. One of the options will be "HardDisk, CD, Floppy" try that. This is telling the computer which place to look for the operation system information. Likely your system is looking "Floppy, HardDrive, CD"

good luck!

Mike
