Subject: What's running on my com port?OS: XPCPU/Ram: P IVModel/Manufacturer: Dell |
Comment: I am trying to reconfigure com1 on my PC, but I keep getting a message saying that the port is currently not available. Is there a way to find out what program has the port assigned?

Reply: (edit)More than likely it is your mouse! check your IRQ's and reset them so as to add another object to the com 1 port. you can have several items using it...all will be controlled by the assigned IRQ. Just exactly what are you trying to do and maybe we can guide you along. In The Matters Of Style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, Stand Like A Rock A lost Cause! computervitals.com

Reply: (edit)Yes you can. Device manager-click com port-properties-resources-deselect automatic and change settings and select another configuration. Be careful and do a system restore point first.

Reply: (edit)Changing the IRQ settings on laptops trying to use a docking station has become quite normal these days. This also includes trying to use handhelds and synchronizing them to the desktop computer...the IRQ settings may have to be changed so as to accomadate the new addon. Reply: (edit)"Just exactly what are you trying to do and maybe we can guide you along." I am trying to connect a touch screen (Point of sale system) monitor to the com port. Driver says it works on com port or USB port, but the monitor came with a serial connection.
