Comment: Hi all, I am curious that since XP Pro's native UPS monitoring service is provided by APC if that is the only brand that the OS will work with or not? or could I put a TrippLite or other brand on an XP box and still have it shut itself down properly in case of power failure? Thanks, Chuck

Reply: (edit)You can use other brands of UPS's. They should come with software. I'm running a Belkin UPS, using Belkin Bulldog software. It has and will shut down the system. No problems.

Just to set the record straight, all APC did was developed the UPS tab in the XP power management control panel. The XP UPS tab provides improved basic support for most manufacturers' serial UPSs. Reply: (edit)I am using a Belkin UPS with XP and it works fine. The APC thing is just ignored. As UPS are controlled through the RS232 serial port or USB all you need is the manufactures supplied software. Stuart
