Hi Folks,

I am using a custom built system. Mother board is ASUS CUV4X Rev 1.03 and Windows XP is installed. Chip set is VIA 694X/694Z When i connect USB pen drive it is detecting, but it is not showing any contents of the pen drive.

I was told that the pen drive is of USB 2.0 and my motherboard does not support USB 2.0
I would like to know, how to upgrade my USB port? By updating USB drivers or i need to change the motherboard.

Kindly clarify, USB 2.0 is more of driver based or hardware based.

Thanks in advance.

With your hardware you would need to update the hardware side of your machine. There are alot of USB 2.0 pci cards out there that can be bought at the website listed below. If you machine only supports USB 1.1 than that it is all it can support. unless you put a pci card in that is capable of usb 2.0.

USB2 is backwards compatible. They can be seen and run using a USB1 or 1.1 port.

Your problem suggests that you do not have the drives properly installed for USB.

Right click on My Computer and select Manage.
Click on Device Manager and at the bottom of the list should be the USB Controllers.

If they show an error or do not show at all then you may be able to get their drivers from Microsoft's Update site.
(You probably have the drivers on your machine somewhere so you could also click on "Update driver" if showing an error)

You may need to take ownership of the folders/ files on the pen drive. Look at the link below to show how.

On my last USB1 computer I bought a converter kit with four USB2 slots for something like $29 at my local computer retailer.
