This basvga.exe process shows up in my task manager under processes after boot up and takes up 50% of the cpu usage. My computer runs extremely slow at this point and after about 10mins or so it dissappears. I have not been able to find is executable anywhere on my machine or registry. If anyone has any idea of what maybe causing this or how to stop this please respond.

Google yields no hits on this. I suggest you untick this item and see if there is a negitive impact on anything.

Maybe check for, and remove SpyWare.

I wish i could untick this process but i only see it in the task manager under processes. It not a startup process under msconfig. Do you know another way that i can untick this?Chuck2
I have ran adaware, spybot, and i just downloaded and executed cwshredder and they found nothing.

Obviously this exe does exist. The logical conclusion is the file is ticked as hidden. I'm not sure what the proceedure would be to find a hdden file on your machine. I assume you have already used the search option at the start button. Possibly using a command prompt or searching for a utility that can find hidden files. I don't use XP so I can't be of more help.

In Windows Explorer or Control Panel,
click Tools in the Menu bar,
click Folder Options,
click View tab,
in Advanced Settings list, find and check mark
Show hidden files and folders

See this post: it suggests there is a virus that creates a basvga file or folder.

Have you run a complete AV scan with updated dat files?
You can, of course, end the process in task manager and see if it reappears on the next boot. You can also find the .exe file in Windows explorer, save it on a floppy or somewhere in case you should need it, and delete it from the hard drive. See if there are any adverse effects.

thanks for the response salgolf:
Finding this file anywhere on the pc except in task manager under processes is the whole issue. I have searched explorer and the registry and can not find this file anywhere. Yes you can delete the file in the task manager but it comes back on the next boot. Like i said above it runs in the task manager for about 10 to 15mins and it disappears. Is it possible that this file is being ran remotely some how?

Anything's possible, including that. Did you follow Chuck's instructions to show hidden files and folders? You might be able to find it that way through a search. If you do, and can't delete it, you might try deleting it in safe mode or at the command prompt. But I would say it's definitely a virus, and running a scan with updated definitions is a must.
