Perhaps the poster means add-ons that Internet Explorer uses. Adds functionality to Internet Explorer like control of tool bars. One example is webrep that gets installed as an add-on if you have avast antivirus. Webrep let you know if a website is to be trusted. This plugin can be either uninstalled within avast or disable within IE add-ons by way of the managing add-ons. Google for IE add-ons and read for yourself what others are available and what they will do.
