I use BitComet as well. I find it fairly easy to use - downloads will be slow on any program you use, depending on alot of things (connection, seeders, etc.).

I am using BitTornado, work great if you don't need to download many torrent same time.

About being slow, make sure the ports needed are forwarded if you have router. Other factor such as number of seeders and peers' and thier speed can affect your download.

what does "make sure the ports needed are forwarded if you have router." mean?

i have broadband unlmimted with a 54mbps router in this laptop somewhere i think (it says that on the toolbar)

i ran bitlord and bitcomet at the same time downloading the same thing and bitlord was faster,

i would like to know if anyone think there is a better one

Networking programs use ports to connect to the internet, bit torrent clients use these too. There will be a range of ports your bt client will utilise to download and upload data. This range will be between the port numbers 10000-70000 for example, depending on the client you are using. You can set the range to be used yourself. Usually you need one port per torrent, but a range of at least 100 ports is generally requied.

When on the internet your computer has an address called an IP where all the data is sent to (data you have requested, relevant data etc). Your modem/router device for connecting also has an IP. The data from the net is actually sent to the routers ip and then the router sends it to your computers ip, if you have more than 1 computer in the house the router sends data to the relevant computer that requested it.

Port forwarding is setting up dedicated ports for the piece of software (ie bt client) you want to become more efficient. This means your router will have a dedicated stream that doesnt change, just for bittorrent, making things much faster. To understand how this works check the link at bottom. In order for this to happen you have to have a static IP. Everytime you connect to hte internet your ISP (service provider) gives you a new IP, different everytime. If your router is set to forward data via specific ports to a specific IP and this IP changes everytime you connect, its not going to work. Because your router will be sending to the wrong IP. So you need to set your computer to use the same IP everytime. More and more the user cannot just do this from his/her end, the ISP needs to provide the service, often at extra cost, but if a small charge can be well worth it. Setting up static IP is pretty simple, the hard part is configuring your router to forward the right ports. Remember once you have done this you need to set the relevant software (bittorando, bitcomet etc)to use the same ports.

Before you play with router settings its best to find the router reset switch, a physical button on your router, usually a pin hole that you push a paper clip into. Aslong as you have the router installation disks you can change settings and if they dont work, dont worry, just use the reset button and you should be fine again. If you set everything up correctly and it still doesnt work its probably because your ISP needs to assign you a static IP and you cant just do that yourself from windows, call them.

I think ABC is the best bittorrent client, relativly simple, yet powerful and enable port forwarding. With ABC your torrents will show up green when you get your ports forwarded properly, easily letting you know things are working.

To find out how to do everything described here go to www.portforward.com this is the best site on the net to help with this issue, use the forums if you get stuck.
