What is systemprofile in Windows XP

This directory is loacted under the following path C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile
Anybody having an idea of what is the purpose/functiobnality of this directory.
That is registry stuff. I wouldn't touch it unless you need to.

This is the local system profile (System account). Certain tokens needed to generated in the system context, so if the profile was created with the rest of the user profiles, it may have raised a lot of questions and may have been deleted by admins who did not recognize it. The CSC token is one example. So it was moved to the config directory. So it was actually intended to be moved from the profiles directories. Having it in the user profiles made it too likely that it would be deleted by mistake. So this directory should be protected, it contains certs and tokens to access stored data by the system
