What exactly is SPTD.SYS ? I have been told that it is a system32 file and that it is malware/spyware and some have been deleting it and then their safe mode boot pauses after the sys files load, but dont know if that is a coincidence. There are also stories of people getting the message: Press Esc to load SPTD.SYS during safe mode boot

It is not a scumware or spyware file. However, if you install Vista, that PITA file will put a wedge so deep between Windows & any optical emulation software that you try to install that it might as well be spyware ;-(
