Specs: Windows XP
I am wondering what this Agere Sytems PCI Soft Modem is capable of.. How can i use it? With this modem can i just plug my computer in to my in house phone jack and be able to connect to the internet? I have active internet service in my home, i am just needing a modem for my older style computer, so i can use the internet on it. Right now i am using a broadband. Do i still need to use the broad band with the Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem?

If the machine (machine with the modem) has Broadband, use that. It's much quicker, and doesn't tie up a phone line.

It's a good day when you learn something

to use the modem you would need to have a dial up service which means you make a phone call and get connected to the internet.... at 28K

Put a router in with the broadband modem and forget about using an analog modem

This is just a dialup modem, and not a very good one either. On a good day it will provide download speeds of about 5K bytes/sec and tie up your phone line. Upload speed about half that. Nobody uses these anymore unless nothing better is available.

Go to Wal-Mart. Buy a wireless PCI card and also buy a router. Go back home or whereever the PC is with the Agere modem.
Take the Agere modem out break up into a million pecies stomp on it if you have to just break it. Then install the wireless PCI card where the modem was.
Another idea for the modem. Buy a ballon fill it with helium. Tie a string to the ballon and tie the modem on the end. Then let the ballon go up up and away while your outside of course. You get my point destroy the modem.
ha ha I feel good tonight can anyone tell?

Just because the OP does not come back in 3 or 4 days to reply, does not mean he will not come back and reply.
