HI, I have just installed a wireless ADSL Modem Router so that I can run 2 computers at the same time whilst connected to the internet. My wifes computer was downloading pages really slow whilst mine was fine. When I looked at the internet connections the was a "Internet Gateway" symbol sitting between "Activity Internet" and "My Computer". I disabled this and her computer then was back to normal and running faster. What is this Internet Gateway and is it okay to have it disabled? Kind Regards.

Hi, Its the connection for the router, its a gateway to the internet for your computer, when u dissabled it did you notice you lost internet connection..thats why your wifes got faster ,she gained all your bandwidth. Oz

Here is a cool dictionary of computer and internet terminology:

Takes a long time to load at 56k. Find the word gateway.
I save that web page to my harddrive for reference.

It sounds like your wifes machine some how got setup with ICS [interent connection sharing]. Since she doesn't need it it was OK to turn it off [shouldn't have been on in the first place with your router setup]
