Hello Many people, including me, are experiencing problems with /task manager/msconfig/regedit/ (it closes itself as soon as u open it). I have no idea how to stop this problem but what i found that the possible cause is the file "MSCONFIG32.EXE"

i tried to delete (using 3rd party soft)this file and all it registation values but it regrates itself in just a few seconds.
Do u have any ideas how to stop it and what the hack is that?

Try restarting in Safe Mode, the virus shouldn't load then, open Regedit to the two RUN hives, and delete all references to the virus. That should stop it from loading, and then you can kill it.
If that doesn't work, go here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Follow the directions for a free online scan, and that should do it.

Hi there
I have had the same problem, and NO it was not a virus, I have talked with MS support, they could only give the advice to reinst. Xp (and with that a lot work with all the pgm's). The problem is internal Xp, try to log-off, then make a new user with adm.status, let this new user start regedit, close regedit and the log on as your old adm. now you should be able to run regedit. It worked for me.
Would be nice to have a feed-back

MSCONFIG32.EXE is not a Windows file! It is a virus...W32.Spybot.worm.

I tried the tds-3 trojan hunter, and it identified the virus as DDoS.RAT.SpyBot

I had it.
I'm a XP user, had troubles opening Registry, or my Task Manager. MSCONFIG32.exe is a made up program for the "spybot" virus. XP already has a msconfig program. Norton Antivirus found it first and couldn't delete it. I then installed the 30day trial version of McAfee and it got rid of it! Make sure you update to get the most recent info once McAfee is installed.
The symantec name was already given. W32/Spybot.worm.gen for McAfee
