Hello all, I have WorkFlow listed twice in the msconfig/startup. I don't know what the entry is; I'm assuming that it came bundled when I bought my Dell months ago.
WorkFlow is not listed in "all programs", just in the msconfig/startup.
Anyone know what it is, and is it necessary? I tried searching Google, and all that I can find are programs pertaining to businesses, not home users like me. Thanks for any advice!
~Tommyo

I don't know what it is, but if your computer is working properly - leave it alone until you are positive what it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!

Yes Marty, probably good advice......everything is running fine, I was just curious as to what that thing was.
Must be something that Dell threw on when I bought the computer. I'll leave it alone. Thanks for your reply!!
~Tommyo

check this site out it might help

" workflow.exe - Related to BroadJump Client Foundation - broadband troubleshooting software installed by various companies "
Does that mean anything?
Got that from here -
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/
Lesley

Thanks for the reply Lesley and Catsquirrel33. I am using a Motorola Surfboard cable modem - I'm wondering if it is related to that.(?) The "broadband" tends to lead me to believe that it might be related to my cable connection - but I have no idea.
I'll go to that addy that Squirrel33 listed; I'll scope out the info there and report back here again.......I'll keep you posted. Many thanks! ~Tommyo

I checked out that site Squirrel, but it is totally related to business use.....I have no connection to that at all; but I thank you for listing that addy.
Lesley, I e-mailed my ISP Comcast, and asked them if WorkFlow is related to my cable modem.....it will probably take some time for a response from them, but I will definately post back here and let you know, as soon as I hear from them; even if they don't respond until tomorrow- I'll post here again, so please check back. Somehow, I'll find out what the WorkFlow is!!
~Tommyo

Well, after waiting many hours, I received the usual "pre typed response" from Comcast. You know, the pre typed response that they think adequately answers everyone's question. This is "true to form" as the customer service at Comcast is a joke.
Anyway, they tell me that they have no knowledge about third party software, and referred me to Dell. So I have nothing yet to report on what the hell WorkFlow is.
I guess I'll just leave well enough alone, as I'm not having any computer difficulties at all; was just curious what WorkFlow was. Thanks Lesley and Squirrel for your input...should I figure this out, I'll keep you posted.

Workflow.exe (The Aussie problem solving tool. ) - appears as a Download here...
http://www.laughs.com.au/Funstuff/fun_software.htm
Does that mean anything to you?
Lesley

Good day Lesley. No, I've never seen that Aussie site before; I have no idea what it is.
When I have time today, I'll contact Dell and ask them if they have any knowledge as to what it is. It could very well be some sort of "bundled-up" program(s) that were on my computer when I purchased it last April; maybe I just never noticed it before. I'm not sure as to the response time of Dell, so I might not post again here until I here from them - could take some time.........I'll let you know. Thanks!
~Tommyo

Hi,
If you are still looking for help on this issue, you can visit these webpages and look for workflow.exe on them:
http://www.crankypc.com/id120.htm
http://www.kephyr.com/filedb/index.php?search=WorkFlo
http://www.kephyr.com/filedb/index.php?
search=WorkFlow.exeFor further info:
http://www.kephyr.com/filedb/index.php?search=CFD.exeAlso see whether the following may be related to what you're trying to find out (I mean, you may have some of the connection software described there on your computer):
http://help.bellsouth.net/fastaccess/asp/fastaccess_tools2.asp
Good luck.
Juan

Thanks Juan very much, I went to all those sites, and I'm really thinking that it is somehow related to my ISP Comcast and/or my Motorola Surfboard modem. These are worded exactly like this.........
E:\BrdJmp\WorkFlow.......
D:\BrdJmp\WorkFlow.......No typos; that is exactly as the two entries appear in msconfig/startup. They are not listed in "all programs", and my search cpmpanion turns up nothing.
It is strange that Comcast chose not to personally answer me, instead of sending me their usual, pre-typed, "one answer serves all" answer. Well, it is not strange now that I think of it - it is usual for Comcast's deplorable customer service!!!
Lesley, I didn't forget about you...I have not yet heard from Dell.

Tommyo
Have you Run a Search on XP for workflow.exe to see where the .exe File is actually located ?
That might tell you who or what it 'belongs' to
From browsing around it does seem to be something to do with DSL\Cable Internet Connections
Lesley

Hello Lesley, I did do a search with my search companion, but I just searched for WorkFlow. I'll do another one now for WorkFlow.exe; I never thought of that- I'll post here shortly.........
~Tommyo

Well, still nothing!! I'm really baffled on this one, for sure! If Dell does'nt answer my e-mail by tonight, I'll call them on the telly and see if they know.....maybe it is something that came bundled up when I bought the Dell last April; and maybe I just never noticed it before.
My computer is running fine - no problems at all, so I'm not going to delete the damn thing yet; but I'd like to know what the heck it is!!!
Should I obtain any info, I will let you know here on this thread; maybe there are others too reading this, wondering what the thing is too!!!
Will keep 'ya posted, Lesley! Thanks!
~Tommyo

The time is Friday, 10:15am; no response from Dell.........I give up.
Should I ever figure it out, I'll post it here......... Thanks Lesley for your interest and help!!!
~Tommyo

Sat. 8:15p.m. - Well Lesley, Dell sent me the following............................"
In order to clear up your startup files you may do the following:I need you to cleadr out the startup group. To Clear Out the
Startup Environment in Windows XP, perform the following steps:Click the Start button, click Run, and then type msconfig in
the Open box. Click OK.
The System Configuration Utility window appears.
Choose Selective Startup.
Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI File.
Uncheck Process WIN.INI File.
Uncheck Load System Services.
Uncheck Load Startup Items.
Click OK.
Click Yes to restart.
If successful, please recheck startup items in msconfig (or move
them back to the startup folder) a few at a time to narrow down
the issueWould you please also refer to the link below for me?
http://support.dell.com/us/en/kb/document.asp?DN=1056006 "
Dell advised that WorkFlow is not installed by Dell; he didn't say what it is; or even if he knows what it is....Does that appear to be a system restore???
I'm not to keen on doing a system restore, if that is what he is advising....
~Tommyo

Hi Tommyo
"If successful, please recheck startup items in msconfig (or move them back to the startup folder) a few at a time to narrow down the issue "
What Dell is describing here is how to use MsConfig for Diagnostic purposes and how to Disable StartUp Items - it has nothing to do with System Restore
I would ignore that completely as you don't have any 'issue' !
Dell obviously didn't Install Workflow as a 'bundled program' but I assume they did Install the Software for your Internet Connection
I still think that workflow is probably to do with your Cable Interent Connection but I don't really know
Lesley

Thank you Lesley, I agree - I'm going to leave well enough alone. I am led too, to think it has something to do with the cable modem/ISP; but I don't know for sure.
The next time I go to make a cable TV payment, I'm going to ask the clerk at Comcasts' office to look into it further.
My computer is working fine, so time is on my side.....I'll wait till I get my billing statement and ask Comcast directly; I'll bet it is related to the Motorola Surfboard modem.
Thanks so much for your interest and helping me!! I am very grateful!!
Enjoy your Sunday! Pretty cold here in New England; about 4 degrees as I type this!!
Brrrrrr......
~Tommyo

Lesley (1-14-04) Lesley, if you happen to read this old thread, take a look under the "windows XP" forum, and look for a post by Michelle67; I am now convinced that my unknown Broadjump is definitely related to Comcast........as she has mentioned a relation to Comcast/Broadjump; let me know if you happen to read this, o.k.???
Take care, my friend!!!
~Tommyo

Here's what I know. Comcast installs a program called CFD.exe that claims to be a helpful program. What it appears to do is monitor your internet activity and send the info to companies who then send you related pop-up ads. Someone earlier mentioned Workflow.exe is related to Broadjump. Broadjump (now called "Motive" apparently) also "provided" me with CFD.exe. I'm trying to remove it. For some reason Adaware and Spybot haven't picked it up on my machine. Here's a little description of the related CFD.exe...
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/cfd/
That's what I figure anyway... Personally I'd get rid of it, but do a bit more homework first as I couldn't find "workflow.exe" anywhere - my details pertain to CFD.exe. Of course saying that, I think the fact no-one can find exact details on Workflow.exe is very significant in itself....
Regards,
BL
