Comment: I am replacing the hard drive on my gateway. My question is should I use the full version of the windows XP or should I use the gateway system restore disk? Thank s in advance.

Reply: (edit)If you are replacing the HD, use the full version of XP. Gateway restore CD may no longer work because the hidden partition will not exist on the new hard drive. i_XpUser

Reply: (edit)If you have the opportunity, ideally use the independent XP disk. It give you far greater options than a restore disk for repairing your system in the event of major problems. However, it also depends how Gateway set their restore up; if you have applications that you need on a restore disk, you may have problems installing them because you do not have the independent program disks to do it with, and "restoring" them will damage your independent system installation. I am not saying that is your situation, just check it out first. If you happen to have the independent XP disk already, you have nothing to lose by trying it, because you can always use the restore disk if it doesn't work.
