HI,
The other day, I noticied that my floppy drive wasn't working, so I took the
case off and checked the connections, which seemed to be fine. I hooked everything back up, and started it. The computer got power, but I saw a message on the monitor that said something like "MOnitor working, check signal cable." Thinking I accidentally jarred the video card loose, I reopened the computer, and made sure it was seated. It was. I hooked up only the monitor, keyboard, mouse and started it up, but I got the same message. I tried another monitor, same problem occured. I tried putting another video card into my machine, nothing. I tried putting my video card card into another machine, nothing. I put the power supply in another computer, and it works fine. I unhooked the CD drive, then the hard drive, hoping to get to some sort of BIOS screen, but nothing. I finally tried taking the battery out of the mobo, to reset it. Nothing. I'm out of ideas, has anyone seen this problem before, or does anyone have any ideas how to solve it????thanks,
RIch

we know at this point is that your video card is bad and your psu is good. since a known working video card wont work it seems likely that the motherboard is damaged.

If you have another computer that you can use for testing try the video card from the first, in the second. Then try the memory. You want to eliminate any hardware items you can. Also try diconnecting ALL drive cables from the MB end and remove all cards except for video and one stick of RAM, then try to POST. If no video, how about beeps. If nothing, you could try the processor in a different machine but if you are planning to buy a new MB, now is the time to udgrade to faster components. Think MB, CPU/HS/fan, memory and maybe case or PSU and maybe video card.

I have not tried the memory, that's a good idea. I have put the video card from the non-working machine into a working computer. the monitor stayed black. I thought, good, I've found the problem - I'll take a
video card that I know works, and all will be well.
But, when I took the working video card and put it into to the non-working computer - the problem persisted.
I bought a POST card, and now I gotta look up the code it gave me.
I'll also try the memory.
