what can i do ?

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1tb hard drive
September 18, 2009 at 05:23:53
Specs: Windows XP
Barracuda 7200.12, 1TB, Firmware CC34, Model: ST31000528AS, S/N:5vp06LJS
I partitioned my 1TB into 4
A.NTFS ~ 208GB
B.FAT32 ~ 250GB
C.FAT32 ~ 225 GB
D.FAT32 ~ 248 GB (free space about 30 GB)

Under windows xp 32bit sp3 >> When i run ::: convert D: /FS:NTFS
in the Middle of the Process..the Dos windows was showing::insuficient space...
then next :::convert failed:: next:: symaphore period has expired.::next the Partitions automatically Unmounted!!

At the moment, there is a "safely remove Mass storage device" on the system tray, with no partition!!
when the drive is inserted..

Windows Disk Managment (windows vista Web server 2008 sp2) recognises the Disk as a 2TB yet its 1TB::
and displays:::Disk not Initialised:::When i try to initialise, i have two options
1.MBR ,2.GPT--- But niether works.::the error given is "The drive cannot find the sector requested"

After attempting a "Zero Erase", "seagate Tools for Dos" displays , The Drive is not
responding to commands, check cables...

All partitioning tools say, they cannot read from MBR of the Disk! e.g. Partition Table Doctor( reads disk as 0 MB!!)
No tool has been able to format this Drive!!
They all fail wth funny errros.

It seems the Drive is Protecting its self and is no longer responding to user commands!!
How do i regain control of the drive.

How on earth does a mere "Convert" command DISABLE a hard disk?!
Please Help..
w'ld be more g8tfull if i get ma data back!!

Not a mere convert!!! A major change to the file structure. I agree that should not have happened under normal circumstances.

I'd try a live cd with ranish or ranish on floppy first.

Might try a linux live cd and see what it says. I doubt you can recover data.

Next time you try that, use ntbackup or other backup solution to remote media and then attempt convert.

i have a Hiren's Boot CD Boot CD..
Each tool Brings wiered errors..

ranlish says::: cannot read from Disk..It won't even display the Disk..
I bet Upgrading its firmware may solve the problem..
i can't see where to get the firmware..

Maybe partition magic is earier to use.

I would clean the whole Disc.
Set up new partitions and format them proper
