You elected at some point in the past to compress some files to free up some space. This was probably done during a system clean up. The files are yours, only you know if you want to keep them.

If you have a desktop computer why not just install a second hard drive. I am not a fan of compressing files. You may not even know what those files are anymore without uncompressing them.

I would not delete them. Compression is a way to save some space on files. Dunno why MS thinks old files are better ones to compress.

One would have to know exactly what files are needed. Even experts might be fooled by some so I would only suggest you not delete any. It may be possible if you think they are no good files to put them in trash can in case you need them back.

and here maybe.

Windows 7 will not help if you have too small of a hard drive by the way.

Old files does not mean YOUR old files but also those of the OS, programs, patches and 3rd party software that have not been used/updated in awhile which is why you can not associate deleting old files with compressing old files.
