Comment: Can someone tell me everything that affects how long it takes for Windows to startup? I already know about all the "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"s, the startup folder, and win.ini. I was wondering if there is any others, such as drivers, dlls, and other programs.

Reply: (edit)orangutang, we tend to have a lot of extras in our startup and sometimes that can take a lot of time and make things seem slow. There're certain thing that MUST be in the start menu and a LOT of wannabes. Find a list of MUSTS @: http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Uncheck. HTH. Ed in Texas.

Reply: (edit)Run "MSCONFIG" is see what's running on your PC as it boots. Also defraging the disk speeds up booting, as it puts all the system files close together on the disk meaning faster access. Finally get your RAM up to 1Gb, everything is loaded into RAM meaning less disk access during boot thus faster boot time.
