Hi everybody.
It's been a long time since my last post. I'm writing now because I'm having a strange problem with my system and I'd like to hear some opinions about it.
Problem is that from last week approximately, my PC is restarting by itself very often. I performed a complete virus scan with my updated AVG antivirus and everything is OK. This leads me to think that it's a hardware problem and maybe it is because I have the Intel Active Monitor installed (constantly checks system temperatures and voltages) and it shows signs of overheating, which I know is a common cause of system restarts. The weird thing is: It only happens when the monitor is turned off (Forgot to mention that I never turn off my PC). When I'm working with my PC, everything's OK. But let's say I leave or go to sleep. When I come back to my PC it has restarted in my absence and the Intel Active Monitor icon is flashing, but just a few seconds after turning on the monitor and starting to work with my PC it returns to normal. This thing is puzzling me. I checked the screen/monitor/energy settings in control panel and everything seems to be normal. I also have my PC connected to an UPS. I know it's not a bad idea to take my computer to the technician just for a maintenance, but it's really weird to me that this problem only happens when the computer is "on" but "not working". I have it configured for turning off the monitor after 20 minutes, never turn off the hard discs and never go to inactivity.
Thank you very much in advance for your input.

Right click My Computer,
Properties,
Advanced tab,
Settings button (Starup and Recovery),
uncheck Automatically Restart. Now you should get an error message when it happens again.

I've just turned on the monitor and it didn't show anything. It has a led that shows a green light when it's working and a yellow light when it's "sleeping". It didn't change from yellow to green after moving the mouse repeatedly and I had to shut down the computer by keeping the power button pressed. Started again with no problems, but the desktop again showed the "recover active desktop" message, as when an improper shutdown happened.
