Weird Issue with my internet

I whenever i try to electronically register The sims 2 with EA games it says that I'm having trouble connecting, it also says this on microsoft.com when I try to validate my WinXP to dl directx 9.0c. I think this MAY be a new issue as I've never seen it before, the only recent thing I have done is install a new dvd-rom, i dont think that would affect it. Any ideas?

this is a stupid question i dont think itll help with the answer but may narrow it down a bit. are you using a vitual private network? or are you conecting through another computers shared conection to get to the internet. if so that has something changed that makes it think that your a intruer and wont allow you to do certain things.
