Comment: I recently got a new web cam, though it was used (excuse the oxy-moron). Anyway, whenever I plug it in a message pops up saying that it is an unknown device. In device manager, Unknown Device shows up under the USB list. The installation program asked me to plug it in, but when I did it didn't detect it. Supposedly the installation program said I could plug it in later, but its still showing up as Unknown Device under USB in Device Manager. I can't manually install the driver because when I try to click update driver, and go through to manually choose the company etc., all I get is a list that says Unknown Device. Anyone know how I might fix this, or another place besides driverguide that I can download a non-install version? All I know is that it is a Labtec Webcam, and it isn't the Pro webcam. We are Microsoft; resistance is futile.

Reply: (edit)When you install a USB device, you normally have to leave it disconnected, install the software and then attach the device.

Reply: (edit)Like I said, I don't need the installation file. However, when I plug the thing in, it says this: One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message. When I click it, it lists the USB devices, and lists it as Unknown Device. Any other suggestions? We are Microsoft; resistance is futile.

Reply: (edit)I have a labtec webcam also and when it said attatch camera it took a good few seconds befor it detected it. How/where did ya get the installation software? The reason I ask is because I firstly went to the labtec website and downloaded the camera software. But that would not recognise my camera? I had to install from the cd that came with it,but you did not buy new? Do you have the CD? Reply: (edit)Nope, I got it used without the CD, and the program I downloaded didn't recognize it either. It said it couldn't detect it, so it isn't because of a few seconds of delay. We are Microsoft; resistance is futile.
