Hi
I have an old laptop which i want to give to my brother (he is a student) to can chat time to time with me using yahoo messenger.
Now this laptop its a bit old , from the year 2OOO , the processor is a samuel 2 730 mhz , ram 256 mo, video card 16 m.I have xp SP 2 installed on it , its going ok but ahen i used my web cam on yahoo messenger the cpu its used 100 procent by yahoo and another process called system.I tought it can be the yahoo so i installed an older version , lighter , still uses 100 cpu.I tried different chat programas, like skype or trillian.Trillian its lighter and much better but i cant use it when the other person uses yahoo messenger(i did a test).
So, i tought its yahoo so i switch the webcam on in explorer, which using also 100 cpu.I guess its the laptop a bit old thats why...but maybe i am wrong(i wish) ,maybe you guys have another ideeas? If i buy memory bar to go up to 512 mo it will help me?i dont wanna pay 60 euros for this memory bar if i am not sure it will improve the laptop using less cpu.
I hope ill get some good advice from you .Tnx and see ya next time:)

It is really relative to the camera...some cameras' require a lot of CPU output in order to operate. I think the minimum for system requirements is like 1gig rating for CPU.
Adding a bit of extra memory MIGHT help a little but not much.

Thanks for reading and writing your meaning.I think its just too old because i tried ,after posting here ,the yahoo messenger without the cam just with the mic(voice chat )and still its using 100 %cpu.My question is why they say you can use yahoo messenger with a processor 230mhz , but 500 mhz will be better.I have 730 mhz and still its almost freezing.Tnx anyway and till the next.bye!
