Any webcam users out there?
I bought a Microsoft Webcam VX1000 almost a month ago so I could see/talk to my sister in Elliott Lake. In our sessions I can see her and hear her; she can hear me (not loud enough at times) but can't see me. We've had three sessions, trying different things to good video and audio. She paid $20 for hers (don't know the make) and I paid almost $70 at Future Shop - I think I was robbed.
I've gone to the Microsoft help sites and there is no mention of my problem. It covers how to install (it's pretty much self-install) and then click the button on the top of the camera to start a video session.

Does that mean that there is nothing wrong at my end; the problem lies at my sister's end?

Appreciate any help.

Paul

Can you get a picture from your Web-Cam on your computer? If not then you need to sort that out first. You should see an item in Windows Explorer for Web-Cam.

Assuming you can then have you got the application you are using to talk to you sister configured correctly. You need to configure the application to use the Web-Cam.

Yahoo and Skype do it pretty well although I prefer Skype as the sound quality is better.

I guess you were. Radio Shack sells it for USD $29.99.

XpUser. I wonder if I could return it today and get money back? There is a phone number to call for a 'replacement credit'. Probablyh wouldn't do much good - I still need a webcam.

StuartS! Yes, I can see me in glorious colour, and I can make a video clip with some sound.

I've reinstalled the application and I didn't see any particular place to configure the other than a spot to set things like brightness, contrast, hue, gamma, etc. Done those.

StuartS! Skype is purely a phone system. No video involved. That doesn't do me much to hold a video/voice session with my sister.

You need to look again or get a later version. Version 3.2 does do video.

Paul, I'm late getting into your thread, I know, but...

You never mentioned what program/service you were using with your sister in Elliott Lake. That would have been useful. For instance, if you were on MSN Messenger, you probably should have poked around in the "Tools, Webcam Settings..., etc" part of MSN - May also be the same/similar in whatever other program you both were on.

It's one thing to own and install a piece of hardware, then you may have to "train" some individual programs how to function with it.

You are almost half-way there, since your sister can hear you, albeit faintly. "Not good enough at times..." may be as simple as the physical location of your webcam and even how much you "bob 'n weave" while you talk!!.

BTW #1: I'm sure you taught her how she might have to turn the volume up if she just recently got a laptop -- (just teasing, referring to an earlier post of yours - LOL).

BTW #2: Somebody I know ["Handlebar"] says he may know you??? Is that possible, ya think???
