Hello everyone!!!

Summary: Wanted to let xp do a clean install (ie clear everything on my HD) and to install totall from scratch. This didnt happen. Ive still got files and folder from W98. How can i redo this. I was expecting xp to ask for my old w98 cd but that didnt happen. Im sure i chose the right option. Any ideas?

Tex

You obviously selected upgrade instead of clean install from the drop down box.

If you want it really clean, then format the hard drive and boot to the CD to install XP.

Boot the computer using a "start-up" disk or any disk with system files that have fdisk.exe on them... delete the hard drive partitions, change the bios settings to have the computer boot from the CD, then put XP in the CD, it will boot and ask if you want to format the hard drive.... format and install!
If you can not boot from CD, then boot with the start up disk and enable CD support, at the prompt...type this: a:d: (the drive letter of your CD) then type cd\i386 (hit enter) then type winnt
XP should start to load.

You don't need to create a boot disk. Win XP CD is bootable.
So you can just boot from the Windows XP CD, make sure that you have CDROM as your #1 in BIOS boot sequence, and then you can format your hard drive clean from there.
You will follow the options after booting from the CD, after a few selections you'll be able to type in command, when you can type "format c:"
To change your boot sequence from BIOS, press "F2," or maybe for some computer it's the "Del" botton when it starts up.
