Software-wise, my laptop is pretty buggered up. It won't connect to my router anymore, doesn't like installing stuff from a cd, and i can't get it to do a system restore at all. I was wondering, is there something, maybe a virus, i can use to, basically, wipe EVERYTHING except the OS and the essential drivers?

why not put the XP cd, boot and choose the repair option, it should repair your XP installed files. If still things dont work out fine, the the better option would be to Format and reinstall. (take a backup first)
