Whenever I set a wallpaper, it ocassionally dissapears and is replaced by the desktop colour in the "Appearance" tab. So far, it has happened only when I use a wallpaper other than the defaults and the ones in "My Pictures". Those work fine so far, but I haven't tested it yet, so it could be just that it hasn't happened. How should I remedy this?
Note: This happened once on my old Win98SE system, but went away by itself. Don't know why I'm saying this, though.
Also, it seems Windows Update has been updated. But, whenever I go to the site, I don't get a Security Warning to install the new Windows Update software, and I wait for quite a while (5 minutes or more). The page doesn't change, and the only links I can click on on the menu to the left are Settings, Administrator Options, Help and Support, and Frequently Asked Questions. Thus, I can't update. I checked Help and the FAQs, but there's nothing concerning this problem. Is it my computer/settings, or the site itself?
Here's some details that could concern/affect the Windows Update:
-I used to be able to use it fine (though the WU software was preinstalled on my computer)
-I have McAfee Internet Security Suite 6.0, and pretty tight security
-My IE Internet security settings are pretty high, but usually set to "prompt".Please help with my two problems.

I've had that wallpaper problem too. Has something to do with a cache or Temporary Internet Files. If you set a wallpaper not in c:\windows\web\wallpaper or My Pictures it will eventually get deleted, purged, or otherwise erased. Just put it in one of those places.
As for windows update, I don't think there is a security box for version 5. I think it's just a button link thing. I guess maybe a box pops up then. I forget. Just put your settings down low temporarily and see if it will let you do it. Try setting to default or something. You could always set it back later. Only takes a couple of hours of meticulous scrutinizing.

Thanks. But, for the Windows Update problem, I set the site in my "Trusted Zone", yet it still does nothing at all, and the links I listed in my initial post are still the only ones I can click on.
