I have earthlink dsl as my internet provider and Windows XP as the operating system. I use Microsoft Outlook 2000 to check my emails. Just the other day, I was dling emails from earthlink's server onto Outlook
and a virus was dectected by norton anti-virus. The virus's name is "w32.nimda.enc."I checked this site for all messages on the virus and followed everyone's advice already. I dled the removal tool that would remove the virus from the symntec site and I've also dled the tool from www.pandasecurity.com. After I have ran both virus removal tools, it said that the virus was not detected on my computer. But when I go to open up Outlook to download my emails from
earthlink's server again, a message box would pop up saying "Virus Alert: W32.nimda.enc has been detected on your computer." But I have
scanned everything and the virus has not been detected. So, where exactly is the virus then? And how would I go about getting rid of it when it's not even on my computer??? So confused...
Thanks!

Sounds like they are in the e-mails you download. There must be a e-mail in the group you are downloaded that is infected.

This first happened 2 days ago. Hmmm, then if I delete all the emails from the hard drive would that solve the problem? But if I deleted all the emails from the hard drive and when I dl new emails onto outlook, if the same thing happens... then what? Cause I always delete all my emails after I have read them. If the virus continue, then could it be the person who's sending them that has the virus instead of me?

Go though them and see if any are suspicious files to you. And yes, the person sending them could have a virus. Go ahead and read them and delete cause the virus won't just go away.

Hey Cal,
Thanks for all you responses. I actually contacted the rep at my internet provider and he also said that the person who's sending me the emails might be the one that's infected. He advised me to contact everyone on my address book and tell them to scan for viruses.
