I have a PC I'm working on for a friend that has the vundo (virtumonde) exploit on it. it's blocking all net access, and has disabled McAfee, and won't let spybot S&D or adaware to update. I've booted to safe mode with command and loaded new deffinitions manually, and scanned with some tools that claim to remove the exploit, which has helped with stability, but I still get no internet connection and a lot of popups. I've found some .dll files and removed them, as well as some registry keys, but since the exploit is tied to the explorer.exe and winlogon.exe I can't terminate the resident memory process for the trojan, and it just rebuilds everything I delete. I'm missing something I just don't know what.
I have the HiJackThis log if an expert will request it.
Thanks,
Andrew

I have already tried vundoFix, and have looked for the entries on the virtumond page and I am unable to find some of them. I'm still having the issue with the trojan

I have a question about HiJackThis. If I choose to select an item in the application and it's a .dll file, will hijackthis be able to remove it, or do I have to go into safe mode and do it manually? Are there not some reg keys that I need to delete as well?

Time for a clean install.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

... I would of used "aegis's"
http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php?...
... no doubt you saw this:

... and #Response Number 1 is pretty dam good software, you did'nt state that you tried that! esp with files being renamed and popping up hours later, zap the critter it can be a head ache if you do'nt know the manual route which is forever changing.

Part of my issue I think is that this thing blocks access to the net so I download these programs on another PC and install them on the infected one but I cannot update it to keep up with the "ever changeing" varients of vundo. Yes I did see that in the hijackthis log for the unknown software. I didn't know if any of the other entries that the website listed as good but might be "nasty" if they've been hijacked were known to be associated with the trojan. Like I said i am finding things like that but when I delete them they come back which is why I'm seeking more indepth look at the issue, ie starting to suspect entries that can be good or bad depending on how they are run and from where, that's what I am a noob at, not the obvious unknown software entry..I did see that.

"...and install them on the infected one but I cannot update it to keep up with the "ever changeing" varients..."
... just copy the folder after it's been updated to the infected pc.
... maybe even "C:\Program Files\Common Files" folder aswell depending on the installed program!
... good luck keep us posted anyway!
