What is "it"?

I suspect you have spyware problems. run adawarese or some other spyware cleaner. this might be a start to your solution.

best of luck Frank :

Run/msconfig and stop it from starting there.

You "HAD" Zone Labs "ZoneAlarm" Firewall.

IF you uninstalled it and it still runs...then i suggest ReInstalling it properly..and Remove it again.

But why not keep that Firewall? Its better than most freeware Firewalls :)

I had the same problem some while ago. I had uninstalled Zonealarm including deleting the entire Zonealarm directory but it was still working in the background without any controls being accessible. I reinstalled it and again uninstalled it, I searched for vsmon.exe all to no avail. Finally I did a file by file check through Windows\System32 and found a file called vsdatant.sys which had been left behind after the uninstall. To play safe I renamed it and then rebooted. This time no hidden firewall was running in the background. I then search the registry for it and found it under CurrentControlSet\Services. I deleted the registry entry and have no problems since.

Hope this helps.
