VPN over boradband with XP

Hi,
Please can someone help me? When I try to connect to my office LAN via VPN over broadband, the conection freezes at the verifying username & password stage. However, if I dial up to my ISP first using the phone line, then connect to the VPN - everything works ok. This seems to prove that the firewall config at my office works ok. I have tried the microsoft NAT patch (KB818043), but it has made no difference. Is anyone else getting these problems?....
