VPN blocking internet

hi I have a Cisco systems VPN adapter on my laptop for work related issues. When i connect to vpn my LAN is not working and all internet traffic is lost. I have a DSL connection. Do you know what is the problem?

It should still work. If your DSL connection is terminated, then the VPN wouldn't work. Check with your IT support and see if their configuration disables anything.

Did your LAN ever work while connected using the VPN?
Some work related VPNs will lock out all other connections while the VPN is running to make the connection secure.
Usually the company providing the VPN will use a proxy server that you must use in order to access the companies' intranet and or the internet for the same security reasons.
Check with the system administrator for the proxy server settings or how to resolve your issue.
