volume bar stuck!

sometimes, like now, when i click the volume icon in the taskbar, the slider bar pops up and then doesnt go away unless i log off. Why does this happen?

just press a alt + f4 to close it or click any empty space will close it

i've tried to click in an empty space and alt+f4, but that doesn't work. That is why i posted in the first place. I should have made that clear. Any other suggestions? It normally happens during or right after start up if that helps. any other time it works.
