VOBs are actually MPG2 files. So depending upon your circumstances, you might be able to just change the extension from VOB to MPG.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Search for "Super C", it's free and it does it all.

ham30 is correct. However, sometimes there are other things such as protection that stop the simple renaming process from working. Vobedit is a free demuxer of vob files. it will give you a m2v file and an audio file. They can be re-muxed into an mpeg with many programs such as ImagoMPEGMuxer. Super C is another that claims to do all this.
The beauty of vobedit is that it will join up all the vob files and give you a completed dvd as an m2v file and not just single, seperate vob/mpg files.
