Hi everyone, Im sure my problem isnt new to anyone, but I wanted to see if somewhere outthere someone have the same model and problem as me. I desperately need to find the right SATA controller drivers for the GATEWAY MT6841... please all the know how people lol. Havent been able to find the right driver and dont know even after finding the right one what problem will occur while installing XP from Vista.

Thank you in advance for anyone who responds to this post.

Have you tried to install XP yet and if so what did it do or not do!

Also if it is still loaded with Vista...and working...you can install SIW (google) and see what controller is listed under the motherboard heading then google for that driver.

From what I can find out the motherboard specs is here:

http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile...

but there is no controller listed....refering back to the first question above...you might try to just install XP and see if it doesn't have a generic driver to work!
or it may be bios embedded and not be reguired at all!

Have you tried contacting Gateway or going to the gateway website?

Software gives me a headache.

Are you installing as a Dual Boot or do you want to eradicate Vista and install XP?

XP may actually recognise SATA if in BIOS the mode is set to IDE....

I want to totally install XP. when I tried it didnt see the hard drive driver.... copied what I thought was the SATA drivers on a floppy and pressed F6 during setup but still what the correct one. I guess the problem for now is finding the SATA driver that will work with my PC. HAvent tried different modes. Did so much research now im giving up... I called the LAPTOP DOCTORS and they charge about 250 just to get all the proper drivers for this VISTA downgrade mess. IF they knew Vista was going to be pre-mature, all manufacturers should at least available drivers for the newer models for XP.

Any XP SP2 or higher CD should have SATA drivers already on the disk. I have an *cough*bootleg*cough* SP3 bootable CD and it has them.
