I have a COmpaq Presario SR5050NX that I need to instlal xp on. I havent deleted vista yet so I can go into the device manager and find the sata controller information. It says I have a 82801G ich7 27DF Sata controller. I went to intel.com and found the 1ch4, ich5 ich6 ich8 and ich9 controller driver information. IT SKIPPED THE ICH7 DRIVERS AT THE MANUFACTURERS WEBSITE!!! ? The motherboard is an Asus P5LP-LE. I have read several threads in google and have come up with false information. Several websites tell me to download the intel storage matrix driver originally made and released on 8-2-07 and they provide a link. I click on the link and I get a release from 11-?-07 and I am able to make an F6 install Floppy. When I load the floppy I only see options for ICH8 and ICH9 controllers. Asus's website doesnt have software for it. I ran the chipset identification utility from Intels website and I get an error message. I am assuming that its not compatible with vista. Please help me find the right controller so I can instll XP. Thanks

OK I figured it out. I downloaded a program called nlite and another download called mass storage xp driver pack and I used nlite to integrate the driverpack into an iso that I just burned and installed. One note - I had to go into the bios and change the sata1 mode from raid to ide for it to work.
