Specs: Windows XP Home Edition, 256
Can you please advise? I need to replace my windows xp Home Edition, can I simply buy & install Microsoft Windows Vista
Home Basic Upgrade with Service Pack 1 on top of xp home edition? If I can, will the upgrade automatically format my hard drive & overwrite xp home edition?

not with 256meg ram. That is barely enough to run xp home. you need at least a gig of ram to run vista properly

Why to you "need" to replace WinXP home? I don't know why you'd want to run Vista in the 1st place? It's the WinME of the NT based OS's.

As wanderer said, you don't have enough RAM anyway. Stick with XP Home. You should consider adding more RAM too...at least another 256MB.
