viruses, spyware & no task bar

For the last few weeks i have been plaugued with continual viruses being found by AVG, constant pop up's & now my taskbar & desktop icons keep disappearing & only return on start up !!
Have used Spybot which constantly finds Virtuemonde which i remove but will return when i reboot...have tried in safe mode - no joy. Have tried a couple of virtuemonde removal tools - no joy. Have also tried Adaware - still no joy
Any ideas as i dont want to reformat if i can help it
