ada1984, "reformatted the hard drive and everything it keeps coming back." The reformat should've cleaned it. Did you perchance revisit the infected website and get it back?
Disable 'restore' and scan with a cleaner and see if it goes away. If not, it may be a Trojan and require a different cleaner. Once you've cleaned it, don't forget to reactivate 'restore'.

Well, i searched about the virus. And its a bad one. So unless its gone, do not use any banking site, or any other important site, as it steals ur password, and is also a keylogger.

Which antivirus are u having? Do you have any antispywares to scan ur PC?
Did u perform a full format or a repair of your system? If the virus is still returning after a full format, then the security is somewhere lacking on your PC. Or, it maybe present in the files that you have backed up on ur PC.

So i hope you are having a proper antivirus on your system.
I searched and looked that AVG was able to remove the virus. You may also try to download Spyware Doctor starter edition, and update it, and attempt to remove the virus with it. Or run a scan with AVG, after turning off system restore, and then booting ur PC in safe mode.

Hope u get rid of it for good.

And also, put this topic in virus forum, they will be able to help u better.

I use Ad-ware, spy-bot, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and spysweeper..

anti-malware finds them in the

C:\Documents and Settings\Adam\Local Settings\Temp\kka1.tmp (Backdoor.ProRat) -> No action taken.

name of tmp files change each time the programs get rid of the files

category memory module

When i reformat and re install windows then run the those programs the viruses are back.. it's not a website i visit..

I also forgot to mention, i run all programs they find different things.. then when i re start, windows crashes, reformating does no good, repairing windows xp does no good... Sounds like something could be stored in the memory, i don't know how all that works

You're apparently not wiping the HDD correctly. Are you deleting the partitions, then rebuilding them, then formatting? Are you using the retail version of XP to do the re-install or the Dell Recovery CD? Could it be that the virus jumped into the hidden recovery partition?

You're running XP with only 128MB memory? Is that a mistake? If not, your system must be slow as molasses on a cold day. You definitely need more RAM.

I've deleted the partitions and rebulding them.. It comes to find out, the second hard drive had virsus as well, so I guess after re formating and installing windows, the virus on the second hard drive, would automatically plant on the c drive
