Norton detects virus W32.Alco.gen but cannot repair the file or remove it: "access is denied". I tried looking for the file to delete it manually but it doesn't exist! I ran a search for it as well, checking for hidden files. Nothing shows up. I restarted Windows in Safe Mode and looked for it: nothing. I went into the registry and it's not there either!!!!!!! WHAT TO DO! PLEASE HELP!!!!

Everytime I start my computer I get that norton message and doesn't wanna leave :(

Thanks,

---Dave

When you go into task manager, it should be there amongst all your other runners

Look for some unusually activity, high CPU usuage ect. Then search for the file that looks suspicious

soz, thats all i can think of

or, you could go into msconfig, then start up

ignore everything you knows OK, like microsoft office, norton ect, you know what they are.

The go through ones you arnt sure about 1 by one by un ticking them so they dont start with your system

keep doing this untill you dont get any warnings from norton, then you know which process to deny access to

Did you check the Symantec website for the removal tool?
