help i need to fix a virus,
it has very distinctive symptons

- a message comes up every now and then saying you're computer is infected with win32.zafi.b (its not, its a scam to make you buy a virus checker from this company)

- when clicking on links from google it sends you to other sites (not the one you click on) it does this in mozilla iexplorer and opera.

- the hompage for mozilla always comes up as
Insecure Internet activity. Threat of virus attack
Due to insecure Internet browsing your PC can easily get infected with viruses, worms and trojans without your knowledge, and that can lead to system slowdown, freezes and crashes.
Also insecure Internet activity can result in revealing your personal information.
To get full advanced real-time protection for PC and Internet activity, register your antivirus software.
We recommend you to protect your PC now and continue safe Internet browsing.
Click here to get full advanced real-time protection and continue browsing.
Continue to this website unprotected (not recommended). (takes you to link removed by moderator

-disables symantec antivuris completly, and stops updates from avg.

-dissallows exe's called ComboFix.exe (and perhaps others)

-when you stop SVCHOST.exe proccess a shutdown message comes up (made in a bat file probobly!), it gives you 60 seconds b4 the pc shutsdown.

this can be cancelled with shutdown -a

does anyone know what this virus is/how to fix it.

p.s its probably not win32.zafi.b i've checked regedit for the entry (_hazib or whatever....)

thanks for your help

p.s offtopic... i bought halo 3 (preowned) from EB games and it didn't work!... sux!

Go to site below and scan your pc. It is the Microsoft online security scan which will scan your pc for virus and spyware. It will remove the infective bug from your pc.

PM Justin Weber, and ask him to delete this post. Then, post in the Security/Virus Forum. That's the appropriate Forum for Virus issues.

Heya opearn,

As a general courtesy to the online public it is best to prefix provided links that may be harmful with hxxp so they arn't clickable.

e.g.

hxxp://www.defender-review.com/?a=112)

This helps to prevent any inadvertant infection from visitors and regulars alike.
